Call to Worship

Leader: The heavens ar telling the glory of God;
All: the skies proclaim God’s handiwork.
Leader: The community of faith tells of the love of God:
All: we have been invited to the party!
Leader: May the words of our mouths, and the meditations of our hearts
All: embody the spirit of Christ in our world.

Hymn 307 “God of the sparrow, God of the whale”

Gathering Prayer and sung Lord’s Prayer

Merciful God, we have touched and tasted your grace, and we are grateful. When we are hungry and thirsty, you provide. When we are lost, you find us. And yet, our memories can be short. We forget your constant care. We grow tired from trying to do more than we can manage alone; we are anxious about problems which go unresolved; we worry about events beyond our control. For mistakes we cannot undo, for tasks left incomplete, for situations we cannot redeem, we need your forgiveness and ask for your understanding. For recovery of strength and for enthusiasm, we pray for your Spirit. In your mercy, restore us and lead us in the way of Jesus Christ.

(Lord’s Prayer, sung by Chancel Choir)

Assurance of God’s Grace

Peace Invocation: “Put peace into each other’s hands” (Fred Kaan, John Bell)

Put peace into each other’s hands,
and like a treasure hold it;
protect it like a candle flame;
with tenderness enfold it.

Hymn “For the life that you have given”

For the life that you have given,
For the love in Christ made known,
With these fruits of time and labour,
With these gifts that are your own:
Here we offer, Lord, our praises;
Heart and mind and strength we bring;
Give us grace to love and serve you,
Living what we pray and sing.

Prayer of Dedication

We offer our gifts to you, Lord,
with grateful, cheerful hearts.
Thank you that you meet our needs on the journey,
providing what we need when we need it.
Trusting you, we can share what we have with others,
and we do this joyfully, together, today,
in the spirit of Christ, Amen.

Scripture Matthew 22:1-14

Hymn of the Month:   456 “Be present at our table Lord” (Trad, T. Tallis)

Be present at our table, Lord;
be here and everywhere adored.
These mercies bless and grant that we
