Haiti Crisis Response
In the early morning of August 14, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit the southern peninsula of Haiti. Access to food, water, electricity, water, communication and transportation is critically difficult. Exacerbating the humanitarian crisis, Tropical Storm Grace hit the island two days later. All of this comes in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and the turmoil that followed the recent assassination of Haiti’s president.
Please keep the people of Haiti in your prayers as these are very trying times for so many. Immediate needs include food, water and shelter. PWS&D is planning to respond through partners at Canadian Foodgrains Bank and ACT Alliance.

Ride for Refuge
Join Team Knox Waterloo to Ride for Refuge (i.e., from hunger) by supporting PWS&D on Saturday, October 2, 2021. The Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations reports that in 2020 close to 811 million people went hungry due to climate change, conflict and the economic fallout from COVID-19. PWS&D hopes to raise $20,000 for their food security programs around the world. The Knox congregation can participate by either joining Team Knox to fundraise or by donating in support of the team. ELDER ELECTION at KNOX
In the spring of this year, Knox held an elder election. Voting forms were circulated to all professing members of Knox Waterloo. Submitted names were gathered, and a committee of Session met to discern the will of the congregation.
The Session of Knox Waterloo is pleased to announce that the eight persons called to serve terms on Session are: Lawrie Carter, Kathleen Forde, Sean Jackson, Kathy Sauve, Deb Schlichter, Sue Senior, Greg Sennema, and Jen Yessis. A service of ordination is being planned for a worship service in September.
Have you noticed? Hardly a day goes by that we don’t hear, or read, a media report about climate change and how its effects are being felt locally and around the world. Many of us are concerned, even experiencing ecological grief.
In response, For the Love of Creation is suggesting a series of “faithful climate conversations” which allow for a safe space for us to listen to one another as we share our experiences and concerns about the state of the planet and our care for it.
The Global Partners Committee of Knox Waterloo will be hosting a number of these climate conversations in the month of September. We invite and encourage people of all ages to sign up to join us. Register here. Space is limited.
KNOX REOPENING DATE
September 12 is the target date for reopening Knox for in-person worship. The Knox COVID Health & Safety Team will provide more details closer to the date. All health and safety protocols required at that time will be followed.
