We have come to the end of May and here we are still practicing social distancing and unable to be physically together. We are so grateful for the many people who listen on the radio and livestream each Sunday (and those who watch the service on YouTube afterwards). For those of us leading worship we sense your presence and know we are together in Spirit.

Speaking of the Spirit – this Sunday is the Celebration of Pentecost – the coming of the Holy Spirit and the birthday of the Church! The colours for Pentecost are red, orange, and yellow. If you have those colours, consider wearing them as we worship together.

This Sunday we will hear about that first Christian Pentecost in Acts 2:1-21 and then we will focus on Galatians 5:22-23 where we read, “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” We’ll be showing nine short videos – each one focused on one of the Fruits of the Spirit; all created by Knoxhouseholds. (We give thanks for their willingness and their creativity. We hope it was fun!). The service will end with the familiar song “We are one in the Spirit”. Come and join us for worship on Sunday as we celebrate God’s Spirit in our midst!

It is with sadness that we note the passing of two beloved Knox members:

Lois Edwards passed on Sunday, May 24th. Her funeral service was Thursday May 28th and was livestreamed from the funeral parlour. Lois was a valued member of the quilting group and she and her husband Ross not only enjoyed worship, but regularly attended Wednesday at Knox.

Stephen Todd died at Emmanuel House Hospice on Wednesday, May 27th with his family by his side. Stephen’s funeral service will be livestreamed from Erb and Good on Sunday, May 31 at 12:30 p.m. As you know we are only allowed 10 people (including the minister) to gather together. To attend the service through livestreaming, please go to Erb and Good and click on Stephen’s obituary where you will find a link. Clicking that link you will be asked to give your name and email and you will then be registered as a guest for the service. I would suggest you do this at least ½ hour before the service if not before Sunday.  10 minutes or so before the service you will receive an email reminding you of the service and sending you the link to the live stream. Stephen and Ellen (and family) have been part of Knox for many years, involved in small study groups, LOGOS, music ministry, Global Partners, Wednesday at Knox and various other programs. Ellen was a Sunday attendant and Stephen was on the Sound Team as well as serving as an Event Attendant for rental groups.
If you are having problems with the live stream from Erb and Good, we have arranged for another live stream to be available (though we cannot guarantee the quality) through our Knox website. Click the Watch Live (as you do on Sundays) https://watch.nowmediaservices.com/knoxwaterloo.

Please keep both families in your prayers at this difficult time.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13

In Christ,
Linda Ashfield (Associate Minister at Knox)
