What a wonderful Easter service we experienced “together.” I am grateful to those of you who sent in Easter greetings and to Barb Gaudet who pieced them together. As we heard you declare that “Christ is risen, He is risen indeed – Hallelujah” it was a delight to see your faces and hear your voices. Thank you! Thanks also to Deb Lacoste who started the service with her trumpet playing and to those who sent in their photo of “Easter hats.” It was a joy singing the hymns, sharing in our first virtual communion, and listening to the uplifting music from Hugh, M.C and Jessy Ernewein.

To those who missed worshiping on Sunday you can see the Easter service on our new YouTube channel; there’s a link on our website. Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter services are now uploaded and ready to view.

We have had some lovely feedback from the community (and the world) who are listening each week on the radio or livestreaming our services. They have expressed deep gratitude to be able to worship with us; some are members elsewhere (but their churches are unable to provide a livestream), others do not usually attend church (but are finding great comfort as they worship). Many of you have encouraged your friends and family to join us and a few have mentioned this. Our Good Friday Service had 195 households live streaming from 7 different countries and Easter morning there were 320 households livestreaming from Canada, China, Guyana, Romania, UK, Denmark, Ireland, USA, Honduras, Kenya and Trinidad and Tobago. We are grateful for these connections, and humbled that many have sent in notes and donations.

It is with deep sadness that I inform you of the passing of Bill Simpson. Bill and his late wife Tricia were members at Knox and enjoyed worship and fellowship. I still have great memories of watching Bill dance with the Scottish Country Dancers while Tricia watched with a great smile on her face. Bill’s graveside service is today in New Dundee, with plans for a memorial later. Our heartfelt sympathy to his two daughters, Pamela Jane and Barbara Ann and their families. Obituary available at Erb and Good.

This Sunday, April 19th, at 10 am we hope you will join us by listening on the radio or through live streaming. The sermon, “Doubt” is based on John 20:15-28 and 1 Peter 1:3-8. Singing from home, we will be blessed with music from theGuse Family – Shane, Stacey, Molly and Aubrey will sing “I come to the garden alone” and Shane and Stacey will sing “Sunny Side of Life”.

Throughout scripture we hear God saying to us “Do not fear” and these words were said at the birth of Jesus as well as at his resurrection. This is a time when we are all feeling at times fearful and vulnerable as well as a myriad of alternating emotions. “Do not be afraid, for I am with you. You are precious and honoured in my sight, and I love you. Do not fear, for I have redeemed you and call you by name; you are mine.” (Isaiah 43)

May you be assured of God’s presence and comfort.

Linda Ashfield, Associate Minister at KnoxWaterloo
