In a world increasingly fraught with darkness and despair, Knox is excited to join the Waterloo Lumen Festival this Fall. This event offers light, hope and optimism. This is a new way that Knox Waterloo can engage with the local community.
Lumen is an annual, free, all-ages festival that is open to the public and run by the City of Waterloo’s Arts and Creative Industries team (Create Waterloo). It takes place on Saturday, September 20 from 6 - 11pm.
The event features the work of artists as they explore the interplay of light, art, and technology with installations located throughout Uptown Waterloo. Displays are located on the grounds of the Waterloo Public Library, the Canadian Clay and Glass Museum, and throughout the uptown core. All are directly adjacent to Knox. In 2024, large numbers of participants (approx. 43,000) flocked to the festival and many streamed around and through the Knox property, which was dark and empty amid an uptown filled with light, life and activity. We realize this was a missed opportunity for Knox to lean into its desire to be an active presence in Uptown Waterloo and engage in meaningful community connections.
Led by our talented and energetic Music Scholars, the Knox Lumen Event will combine music, light, uplifting songs and familiar images in a secular, inclusive musical collaboration. Sing some familiar songs amid local vistas, enjoy the positive energy and come together with the community as we raise our voices, shine our light and push back against the darkness.
Stay tuned for more information and how you can support this event in the weeks to come.
