Renewed Canadian Welcome. Eleven Visions from Migrants and Advocates, edited by Emilio Rodriguez. Reflecting on last Sunday’s sermon on hospitality, as well as the recent arrival of the Al Dandals, Knox’s sponsored family from Lebanon, this book feels very timely. The editor was the policy analyst for refugee and migrant rights at Citizens for Public Justice (CPJ). He identifies three overarching principles relevant to the topic: human rights, lived experience, and the role of civil society.

This timely book addresses the various aspects – and challenges – of human  migration through a lens of justice and human rights,  and lived experience.  Each chapter focuses on a different aspect and is written by a different author, including one chapter entitled, “The Canada-US Safe Third Country Agreement: What’s at Stake for Churches?” written by Pastor Peter Noteboom, recently retired general secretary of the Canadian Council of Churches.

You may find that the Canadian system for welcoming migrants is not what you thought it was.
