On Tyranny

On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century
by Timothy Snyder

Lawrie Carter, co-chair, along with Heather Cawsey, of the Futures Team, has submitted this recommendation. The book is now available in our Library.

Why should this little book be in our church library? A strong case can be made that the roots of western democracy are found in Christian values. “You are a child of God and I will treat you that way.” When autocracy threatens, these values are threatened. Because of our values, the church will need to be ready to consider standing on the forefront of opposition to autocracy. This readable book is a trustworthy and timely handbook for knowing how to recognize and respond to the threat of tyranny and autocracy told with recognizable stories from the 20th century.
