Barry Cull was born in Birmingham England and came to Canada as a young child. He grew up in Toronto’s west end and as a young man moved to Barrie to take a job as a childcare worker. Barry married Jean d in 1975, and in 1979 moved to Waterloo in order to complete his education. The first half of his working career was in child and youth therapy, and the second half was as a professor teaching psychology at Conestoga College. He has always been active in volunteer work, and in 2010 was chair of SHOW during the building of 362 Erb Street.

Topic: what it was like to be an immigrant child who needed life saving surgery; the challenges it presented to early development and to his parents. He has recently researched his own early history to write his memoir, and amidst the memories he was frequently shocked to learn that many of the things he thought he knew, were simply not true.
