SUNDAY SCHOOL

Welcome to Sunday School at Knox
FAITH FORMATION COORDINATOR:

Carole Clyde – Ellis | carole@knoxwaterloo.ca

At Knox we believe that the faith journey can begin at the earliest of ages. Through Biblically based lessons, the role modeling of teachers, as well as fun, inclusive and creative classes, we hope to instill a vital and growing faith in Jesus Christ.

We welcome all children and youth from preschool to Gr. 12 to participate in Sunday School whether it is in-person or online. We offer online/video Sunday School to provide safe fellowship and learning under the current Covid-19 health and safety restrictions.

All registered children and families receive an emailed lesson written by our Sunday School teachers based on the current lectionary-based curriculum from Whole People of God. These include prayers, scripture/Bible stories/reflections, questions and videos that can be taught or discussed at home. Video links are also provided. If you would like to be put on the appropriate email list, please email carole@knoxwaterloo.ca.

JK-Gr.2 meet through video at 9:15-9:45am every Sunday morning before the service. Come light the candle with Christine, hear a story, pray together and make a related craft with items you have around the house! Learn how we can share God’s love every day! Preschoolers are welcome to join this class. Children need the support and supervision of their parents for this class.

Gr. 3-6 meet through video at 11:15am right after the service. Come light the candle with Carole, discuss scripture/Bible stories/related themes, pray together, make a craft or play a game! Learn how to be Jesus’ hands and feet in our world!

Jr. High (Gr. 7-8) meet through video every other Sunday morning at 11:30am. Come and talk with Amy to discuss scripture and how it can apply to your life! How can you reach out to others to show God’s love in the world? What questions do you have about the stories you hear or your faith? Games may also be incorporated!

Sr. High (Gr. 9-12) meet through video every other Sunday morning at 11:30am. Come to the group facilitated by Brianna to discuss scripture and what it means to you in today’s world. What does God have in store for you? How will your future demonstrate God’s love? You might play a game, watch a video or make a word cloud!

The YOUTH CLASSES are often combined, especially when shared learning and involvement is beneficial for both groups. This occurs for guest speakers, special presentations and special themes such as Christmas, Lent/Easter or our annual Sunday School Challenge.

There are also opportunities for children and youth to participate in intergenerational services. Children and youth are able to share their talents and gifts such as reading scriptures, singing, playing musical instruments or interpretive dance throughout the year. Many children and youth participate in an annual Christmas pageant and when available, other plays or dramatic readings. These opportunities are occurring virtually as they would in-person. See our youth page for other opportunities for youth to get involved with Knox, the greater Presbyterian church, and to reach out to our local and global communities.

IN-PERSON SUNDAY SCHOOL (when available again): Knox offers large bright classrooms for all ages. There is a nursery and preschool room with many toys and books. The children will hear about God and his love for them and others. Elementary aged children and youth will meet with their peers to discuss scripture/Bible stories and discern how it applies to their own lives and how they can reach out to love their neighbours near and far. Sunday School classes are scheduled during the service which is at 10am. Children and youth start in Worship with their families and then leave to go to their classes after the “Young at Heart” time in the service. Teachers will be waiting in their classrooms with the day’s lesson and activity. This is a special time of fellowship and bonding as the children and youth explore their faith under the guidance of caring teachers who are invested in supporting the children in their faith development.
