Summer Sunday school begins June 30. If you would like to teach a class this summer (Kindergarten – Gr 5) please speak to Laura V.
The Women’s Circle of Care would like to thank everyone who stayed after church last week and enjoyed strawberries, cake and ice cream. We made a little more than $500 which will be used for projects around the church. A big thank you the Bruce and Sue Dickieson for donating the strawberries. We couldn’t do it without you.
Vacation Bible Camp: “Shake It Up Cafe” is July 15-19 in the mornings and we need help with leadership. Please contact Laura V if you could lead Bible Time or a Science class with Grades 1-5’s; help with crafts (JK/SK and Gr 1-5) or be a small group leader. Please consider making yourself available even for a morning or two! See you at the “Cafe”!
Please note: Today’s “Canada Day 2019” insert from PWS&D makes reference to the “I Care Campaign“ postcard which can be sent to our Prime Minister. These postcards are available at the Welcome Desk. They`re very easy to send; they require only your name and signature. Please consider doing this.
By now you have either received an email or picked up the Congregational Letter from the Welcome Desk/Church Office that names the candidate that the Search Committee presented to the Session on June 12.
At that meeting, Session unanimously agreed to invite ‘the recommended candidate’ to preach for the Call as Lead Minister of Knox on Sunday July 14.There is a plan to host a congregational interaction/open house with our candidate on morning of Saturday July 13 as well. Please save these dates and plan to attend.
The plan is for the service to be livestreamed as usual if you are unable to attend. A congregational meeting to process the Call to our candidate will be held immediately after worship on Sunday July 14 moderated by the Rev. John Borthwick. (Rev. Linda Ashfield will be preaching that morning at John’s church so he can be in attendance here at Knox).
As per the Transition Plan, the Ashfields will become part time associate ministers at the same time as the new Lead Minister begins. Session approved contracts will be presented as part of the agenda of this same congregational meeting moderated by The Rev. John Borthwick, our Interim Moderator.
Elder Election: Thank you to all who sent in their ballots for nominations for Elders. We received over 100 ballots and around 108 names were suggested but as always there were names who received many nominations. We are delighted the following have agreed to serve as Active Elders for the next six year term. Marg Johnston and David Matthews (returning to Session) and Eric Beard, Dave Dougall and Amy Wolfe (new to Session and Eldership). We look forward to an Ordination Service in September. Those who are leaving the Session in September will become Sustaining Elders.
CAIRN Camp is our Synod Church Camp. We had a great group of people attend the Spring Clean up weekend. Jotham Sennema is on staff and soon four Knox Youth will be attending as Leaders in Training. The camp is looking for support for their kitchen, library and summer supplies. If you would like to donate a book, a kitchen item or needed supplies take a look at the webpage: http://www.ilovecamp.org/donate.cfm. You can click on “Library”, “Cairn’s Kitchen Campaign” or “Summer Wishlist” to see the items needed.
On Thursday Ayshia Bailie and Shannon Paisley left Canada to attend the Bunun Youth Exchange in Taiwan June 28-July 12. They will be travelling with young adults from South Korea and Taiwan as guests of the Bunun Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church Taiwan. The Bununs are an indigenous people of Taiwan who live in the island’s mountain ranges and are known for their vocal music. We pray for safe travels and a wonderful experience of sharing and learning as they journey in Taiwan. Please keep Shannon and Ayshia in your prayers.
