Carol Cressman graduated in 1979 from the University of Waterloo, School of Optometry. After a year of practice in London (ON), she accepted an appointment in Nigeria as lecturer at the University of Benin, School of Optometry. Upon return to Canada, she founded an Optometry clinic in Kitchener-Waterloo (now Insight Eye Care) and supervised students at the UW Optometry Clinic. Since Nigeria, Carol has volunteered in numerous international and domestic projects providing eye care to under-serviced populations. She served as a UW Senate alumni member and recently finished a 3 year term as a UW Board Governor. During her four decades of professional practice, the focus of Carol’s volunteer work was promoting health and healing. Carol is currently Community chair of the Seeing Beyond 2020 campaign to create the Waterloo Eye Institute ( WEI ) at the UW School of Optometry.

The University of Waterloo is home to the the only English speaking School of  Optometry in Canada. The establishment of the WEI will enhance the education of future Optometrists, expand groundbreaking vision and science research and provide enhanced clinical eye care.

The anatomy of the eye and common vision challenges will be discussed as well as how to preserve vision.
