“Three deceptively simple questions are at the heart of a spiritually vibrant Christianity—questions of believing, behaving, and belonging.”
Diana Butler Bass

“Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not his sisters here with us?”
Mark 6:3 (NRSV)

“O loving God, to turn away from you is to fall,
to turn toward you is to rise,
and to stand before you is to abide forever.
Grant us, dear God,
in all our duties your help;
in all our uncertainties your guidance;
in all our dangers your protection;
and in all your sorrows your peace;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”
Augustine of Hippo (354–430)

Entry of the Written Word

Call to Worship (Psalm 48)

One: Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised in the city of our God.
All: God’s holy mountain, beautiful in elevation, is the joy of all the earth.
One: As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God, which God establishes forever
All: We ponder your steadfast love, O God, in the midst of your temple.
One: Your name, O God, like your praise, reaches to the ends of the earth.
All: Tell the next generation that this is God, our God forever and ever. God will be our guide forever.
