Welcome Back Everyone!
This week at LOGOS we will be entering a Galaxy Far, Far Away! I wonder if Princess Leia will arrive or perhaps Darth Vader himself?? What space creatures will appear this week?! Just dust off your Light Sabres and prepare for some Inter-galactic fun!!
It is a Week 2 which means that Sr High will be in the Gym and Jr High will begin with an Activity. After dinner the Grades 1 – 3 Will begin with an activity and Grades 4 – 6 will be in the gym.
A reminder that we do have a NO CELL PHONE policy in place. The reason behind this can be found in this amazing blog post. Let’s tether ourselves to the people in front of us, rather than to our electronic devices – after all, that’s what LOGOS is all about – connection and community.
Also a reminder that with the winter brings the possibility of LOGOS Cancellation. If you are in doubt about whether LOGOS will be running due to the weather conditions, please check your emails. We will send out a cancellation email by 3 pm if we need to cancel.
With the Winter weather conditions the sidewalks and parking lot will be messy! Please help us keep our floors in top condition by bringing indoor shoes to wear.
And speaking of messy, a note to our adult participants: this week may be a bit messy. Give yourself and your group permission to be a bit messy as we come back after the break. This is a great week to review the guidelines you and your youth agreed upon in September. If you are finding that routines were slacking a bit before the break, take time to re-establish the connection we are working on. I cannot stress enough our belief here is that FAITH IS CAUGHT not just taught. As I said, LOGOS is not just about the content you are teaching, it is a MINISTRY where you are fostering relationships: Child to Child, Child to Adult and Child to God. There are few places in our North American Society where children and youth (and adults too!) are invited into a relationship with God. Your job as a Leader is to unveil to the youth, your vision of who God is. We come, as adults each week, and bring our children to show them that our relationship with God and with them is THAT important – we are here for them and we want them to know God. And He is GOOD. We are so blessed that by the time our youth leave High School, they have had the opportunity to have made connections with so many people they truly do realize that They ARE, indeed, a child of God, they have many different tools in their tool box to get them through tough times and so they know that God is with them always.
HAVE A GREAT FIRST WEEK BACK!
This Week LOGOS Orientation: Please join us this Thursday in the Lounge if you are new to LOGOS or if you did not attend our pre-LOGOS evening in September. Orientation times are 5:15-6 and 6:45 – 7:30. It is a chance for us to regroup on why we do what we do, here, each week. These meetings are considered MANDATORY each year for your youth or child to be enrolled in LOGOS.
Lynda Daehn will be here next week for our BEACH PARTY after dinner to do Zumba with the Grade 1- 3’s. The following week she will be back to do Zumba with the Grades 4 – 6’s.
January 21, 2018 we will be hosting the first Workshop in our 4 Workshop Series. In this Workshop we will be discussing Youth in our Current Culture and Caring Conversations. Anyone with an interest in Youth is Welcome! LOGOS and our Christian Education Department are hosting the event. If you are curious about whether you should come the answer is YES!!!! Caring Conversations are what happen each week over Dinner at Family Time. If you are a Table Parent or are considering this role for the future, this will be of particular interest to you. If you have a youth in your life, it will get us thinking about all the ways we can engage in a culture which has so many distractions. It is our hope that this will “fill your cup”. We are welcoming discussion and fun. A light lunch and child care will be provided. We will begin in the Knox room at 11:30 and end at 1 pm sharp. Other workshop dates are: March 4 – Living the Faith (Worship Arts), March 25 – Family Faith Stories (Bible Time) and April 15 – Godly Play (Rec Time).
Please also mark Sunday April 8 on your calendar as we will be hosting a LOGOS Reunion Sunday. Details to follow.
“The Guest House
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice.
meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.
Be grateful for whatever comes.
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
