Thank you! We can never say that often enough. This congregation is filled with generous people. Our givings show faithful stewardship. Our necessary expenses for all we do suggests that collectively we can move forward in generosity. (This is an ask for your financial gifts.)

Today we celebrate a new ministry with Rev. Hugh Donnelly as our Lead Minister. We are beginning a new chapter in the continuing story of grace. I am excited and humbled to be part of this process of renewal.

Sometimes the church hesitates to ask for financial gifts because we do not want to create discomfort. Discomfort is exactly what Jesus caused in people because he loved and saw that generous people can change the world.

At Knox we need 42% of our givings to come in the last few months of the year to meet the cash-flow requirements that we budgeted. We have done this in the past. We can do this again. This year we had a “2019 Special Appeal” in March which raised $103,000 in response to a financial crisis. Does this mean we will not respond with much needed financial gifts in the last quarter? We don’t know. The Session of Knox is concerned since our most generous gifts are in the last quarter.

We know there are some people who cannot and should not give more. Some of us also know, deep in our hearts, that we could give more. We could give again. It will not diminish our lifestyle. Perhaps we are waiting to be asked.

Our ministries make such a difference in the lives of so many children, youth and adults. We are blessed.

This is the ask. Will you give? To God? To others? To Knox Waterloo Church? The gifts are needed as we celebrate new ministry and a bright future.

Your gift will make a difference. A total of $415,000 in income is needed in the last four months to achieve the ministry and mission goals.

Knox Waterloo has a history of practicing boldness and daring in the face of those who say, “You can’t do that!”

“You can’t sponsor an entire family of refugees without outside support!” Well, thanks for the helpful advice, we just did it. The need was there, and so we did it. Together.

“You can’t build a new and larger church in a city core. It just isn’t done!” Well, we sort of did it anyway. With outstanding Generosity.

I remember a Knox parishioner who gave to create this space for effective and inspiring ministry, say this:

“I did not know that I could give so much.
And feel so good. Amazing!”

We are given life by God. We are cared for by God. We are inspired by God. And to God we will return.

1 Corinthians 13:13 “And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.”

There is no ending to God’s Grace and Love.

“No one has ever become poor, by giving.” – Anne Frank

One step at a time. One generous gift at a time. Together we make great ministry happen. Yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Please give generously. Thank you.
