Join us for KNOX COMMUNITY CELEBRATION – Sunday, May 27th at the 10 a.m. service

It is almost a year since we moved into our new church building, which we hoped would also be a centre for the entire community to enjoy. Since that day we have been overwhelmed with the positive response to our new facility and the connections the wider community is making. We truly believe that we are “seeking the welfare of the city” (Jeremiah 29:7).

It is time to give thanks again. You are invited to this special community service. At this service, we will:

hear from our architects about the vision and design of our building

thank the various organizations who have supported us on our journey

and hear words of encouragement from members of the wider community leadership here in Waterloo Region.

Featured will be wonderful music, a few readings and special involvement of our children. There will be a reception afterwards in the church hall. Hope to see you there.

Happy 1st Anniversary! If you are providing goodies for the celebration please bring them in on Saturday May 26th from 10:30 to 12:30. We still need lots of goodies and also help in setting trays. Help with coffee and tea and juice would also be welcomed. If you can help please call Lynelle and let her know – she will not be in church today. Her number is 519-743-5632.

Wedding! Mary Culp & Jeff Steele would like to invite interested members of the congregation to attend their wedding ceremony at 2:30pm, June 2, 2012. The wedding will be held here at Knox in the sanctuary.

Knox Stampers – Wednesday May 30 7-9pm – Join our last stamping night of the season. Cost $15, 4 cards for you, 4 cards for the church including envelopes. Please RSVP to Heather no later than Monday May 28 519-505-2224, hpurdy333[at]yahoo.ca.

May 25th – 27th come up and help to prepare camp Cairn for the spring and summer! You provide the labour and Cairn will supply every delicious meal, a cabin to sleep in and time to relax into the camp way of life. As a bonus, if you have a potential camper of your own who’s not too sure about camp, this is the perfect way to make the introduction–while the adults work around camp, we’ll supply children’s programming and run the weekend as much like camp would run in the summer as possible. A group from Knox goes up every year so if interested contact Dave Ogram (dogram@rogers.com or 519-208-0772) by May 20th.

Watch the bulletin, newsletter, website and bulletin board for our start-up date and news about some of the great presentations we’ll be bringing you in the Fall.

“As you have sent me into the world, so I have sent them.”
John 17:18 (NRSV)

“God of love, help us to remember
that Christ has no body now on earth but ours,
no hands but ours, no feet but ours.
Ours are the eyes to see the needs of the world.
Ours are the hands with which to bless everyone now.
Ours are the feet with which he is to go about doing good.”
Teresa of Avila, 1515–1582

Prelude

Entry of the Written Word

Call to Worship (from Psalm 1)

One: Happy are those whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
All: and on his law they meditate day and night.
One: They are like trees planted by streams of water,
All: which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither.
One: In all that they do, they prosper.
All: For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous.

Hymn 474 “The love of God comes close”

Prayer of Approach (unison)

God of mercy you call to us, but we are too busy listening to the whispers of those who would draw us away from you. Rather than follow Jesus as you hope, we are striving for a more comfortable journey for ourselves. You promise to keep watch over us, but we hope you will close your eyes to how we treat others. Forgive our wavering commitment. Forgive our low expectations of discipleship. Forgive our faltering faith and fill us with the delight and joy we find as your children, sisters and brothers of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.

The Passing of the Peace

One: God’s promise is that our joy is made complete in Jesus Christ.
All: The fruit we bear – hope, love, peace comes from the seeds God has placed within us.
One: Truly God’s Peace is with you
All: And also with you!

Hymn of the month 334 “God who gives to life its goodness”

Welcome and Announcements

Hymn 350 “To God be the glory”

Story Time

Today in Sunday school: Acts 1:15-17; 21-26 Renewing Community
Sr High will meet in the Knox Room this morning; Jr High in Room 205
Next week: Community Connection Sunday Nutrition for Learning

Reading: Acts 1:6–14 (page 119NT in pew Bible)

Gospel: John 17:6–19 (page 111NT in pew Bible)

Our Offering: Safe Within Your Arms (Words and music Mark Hayes)

Soloist: Corey Cotter Linforth

Offertory: Hymn 661 verse 1 “We give thee but thine own”

Prayer of Dedication (unison)
On this holiday weekend, we are thankful for the gift of rest and the opportunity for re-creating our energies. Accept our gifts, which we return to you. May your presence inspire us in generosity, compassion, and love. Amen.

Sermon: “Bless our World”

Pastoral Prayer and Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Your Kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours. Now and forever. Amen

Hymn 510 (verses 1-3) “Deep in the shadows of the past”

Benediction

Choral Closing:

Walk with me, I will walk with you;
And build the land that God has planned
Where love shines through.

Here at Knox we are blessed with a large number of first time worshippers. If this is your first time, you are welcome in the name of Jesus.
If your infant or small child needs care during the worship service, you may leave the sanctuary and return as you wish. We have a bright, modern nursery on the main floor next to the sanctuary. You and your child are welcome. Child care for infants and toddlers is also available.

Worship bags, containing quiet activities are available. Young children who are attending worship in the sanctuary are invited to borrow one of these bags.

Receipts are sent out in January of each year.

Sunday, May 27th at the 10AM Service

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
Your Kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin
against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver
us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the
glory are yours. Now and forever. Amen

It is almost a year since we moved into our new church building, which we hoped would also be a centre for the entire community to enjoy. 2,700 people from the Waterloo Region visited during Doors Open in September and since that day we have been overwhelmed with the positive response to our new facility and the connections the wider community is making. We truly believe that we are “seeking the welfare of the city.” (Jeremiah 29:7)

Last October we had our official Dedication Service, which was a highlight and a great celebration. It is time to give thanks again. You are invited to this special Community Service at our church on Sunday, May 27th at 10 am.

We will hear from our architects about the vision and design of our building.

We’ll thank the various companies and organizations who have supported us on this journey.

We hear words of encouragement from members of the wider community leadership here in Waterloo Region.

Featured will be wonderful music, a few readings and an opportunity to remind the children to “bloom where they are planted”. There will be a reception afterwards in the church hall.
